We also understand that it can be a little daunting, particularly for those of you who are brand new to the world of label design.
How do we know this? Because we have been there before!
As some of you know, before I started LSS I ran my own successful candle business! And after months of practice, and multiple rounds of trial and error I was totally confident in my candle-making prowess. Wick types? Easy. Pouring temperatures? Like the back of my hand.
But label design?
I admit I was a bit clueless. Logo? Artwork files? CMYK? It was like learning a foreign language!
Yet once I got the design ball rolling, I realised just how fun and easy it can be - which is one of the reasons why I started LSS. I wanted to help other small businesses with their branding, design and printing needs and make the process as simple, painless and FUN as possible!
Why a good label design is important
An important part of any small business is marketing and selling your gorgeous, quality creations! And a beautiful, well-designed label can attract customers and enhance the appeal of your product. They also need to display any vital manufacturing information such as ingredients and directions in a clear and aesthetically-pleasing way.
Whether it is on your website, via your social media feed or at a local market, your label is the first thing a customer experiences when they come into contact with your product. Think of it as the icing on the cake. The cover of a book. The sticker on a wine bottle. Before your customers have a chance to burn your candle or spritz your toning mist, they see and read your label. And in many cases, it can play a part in their decision to purchase your product.
This is why we are strong advocates of high quality label design.. A good label is authentic, and showcases your vision, your brand personality and your products in a truthful, genuine and trusting way.
What do I need to start my design?
If you are thinking of dipping your toe in the design waters of LSS, there are a couple of things you’ll need to have upfront for us:
↠ A list of your product that need label design. For example: candles, reed diffusers, skincare etc.
↠ The width and height of your labels in mm
↠ The vinyl type you plan to print on
↠ Your logo file. And don’t worry, if you don’t have a logo yet please let us know - we can help you with this!
We will draw up a quote for you based on these facts and figures. Once your order is finalised, we will send you an invoice!
What will LSS ask me?
Once you have placed and paid for your order, this is where the fun begins! We will send you a Welcome Email, containing specially-tailored forms designed to help you tell us what you want - and what you DON’T want! - on your labels.
Some of the questions include:
↠ Choose from a range of colour palette genres
↠ Select which words best represent your brand and product
↠ Share examples any other brands or labels that you admire
↠ List out all the text you would like on your labels
I’ve completed my forms - what happens next?
Once you complete your forms - simply send them back to us along with your logo, mock-ups or examples you have. Our team then reviews your forms and if we need any extra info, we will get in touch with you.
Once we have all the information we need, we start on your first label draft!
You will receive your first draft via email around 1-3 days after we have all necessary info from you. This is your opportunity to tell us what you love and what you don’t, what you want to keep and what you’d like to change. You can give us as MUCH feedback as possible. Don’t be shy! From there we will send you your second draft. This process continues until we get your final approval. Then your label is ready to send to print!
